It is considered by many people that players and celebrities ought to be paid less in comparison to those who perform noble duties – such as doctors, care givers, school teachers- for their countries. However, I completely disagree with this viewpoint. This essay will discuss that media persons and athletes also play a significant role in developing their respective countries, so they also should be paid at par with others professionals working for the country.
Firstly, many players playing at international level bring in foreign currency to their countries. Several countries concentrate on sports and their athletes to bring a considerable amount of foreign currency to the nation. For such countries, the contribution of sportsperson to the economy of their country is undeniable; hence, they should be treated and paid accordingly by their governments. For example, IPL – Indian premiere league, a cricket tournament played in India – selects players not just from India, but from various cricket playing nations, and pays hefty amounts to them. These games substantially increase the influx of foreign currency to the nations of participating players.
Secondly, media personalities often work as a brand ambassador of their respective countries. There are many celebrities who are popular at international level. Although these people contribute to their countries minimally, they introduce their countries upsides to their global fans. As a result, their exotic fans hold a positive perception about their favorite actors’ home country. What is more, tourism industry and others sectors get benefitted too due to the above mentioned scenario. For instance, Shahrukh Khan is an Indian movie star who is very popular internationally and has millions of global fans. These admirers know India because of him and the Indian movie industry. Since he has taken his country at international level, he should be rewarded the same way as other professionals such as doctors, teachers and engineers.
To conclude, all professionals –whether doctors, engineers, teachers, sports athletes or media celebrities make a significant contribution to their countries, so governments should also not be partial to any particular profession while compensating them.
