Writing Tip
The instructions will ask you to write about three points. You must not leave out any of the points or add irrelevant material or you will lose marks. Your letter must be paragraphed – for example, a paragraph on each point and a concluding paragraph with a suitable ending. You do not need to include any postal addresses.
You should spend about 20 minutes on this task.
You hired a car from a company and while you are driving on holiday, you have a small accident. You will have to write a report to the company to explain it.
In your letter:
- when and where you hired it
- describe how the accident happened
- what kind of action did you take after the accident
Write at least 150 words.
Model answer
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to report a minor accident involving the car I hired from your company during my holiday last week.
I have been a Gold Class customer with your company for over 10 years, holding membership number 13555. I hired a five-seater Audi X9 from your Parramatta branch on 20th December 2024 for the Christmas holidays.
While driving in Gold Coast, my wife—who holds a full driver’s license with over five years of experience—lost control of the car while making a sharp turn and unfortunately collided with a tree.
I was in the front passenger seat and quickly took control of the steering wheel to prevent further damage. I immediately contacted the insurance company, who arranged a towing service within 30 minutes and provided us with a replacement vehicle. The damaged car is currently at your service garage for repairs. I would like to thank your team for their prompt assistance during this time.
